What is SGX Nifty?

SGX Nifty is an index tracking India’s Nifty 50 index. It trades in Singapore as part of the Singapore Exchange Limited.

Why is it useful?

India does not have after-hours trading like many other world markets. You can only trade between 9:15 A.M. IST and 3:30 P.M. IST. However, news that moves markets can happen at any time. SGX Nifty allows some set of investors to play on the moves of the Nifty when the Indian market is closed.

More importantly, it gives Indian investors and traders an idea of what to expect when the Indian market opens. 

If an important news event takes place after market hours, the price movement in SGX Nifty allows investors to prepare for market opening.

Is SGX Nifty and Nifty the same?

No. SGX Nifty is an index that tracks the price movements of Nifty. So the levels are not exactly the same.

What are the timings of SGX Nifty?

SGX Nifty trades between 6:30 AM IST and 10:30 PM IST
